Who's Supplying the Government's "Staff Augmentation" Labor Right Now?

Methodology

Pulled via USASpending's spending_by_award API, keyword-matched across contract awards (types A–D: definitive contracts, BPA calls, purchase orders, delivery/task orders — excludes the IDV/BPA master vehicles those orders are called against). USASpending's own date filter matches on action date — when an award or modification was signed — not period of performance, so a contract signed in 2023 that's still actively staffing work today would be invisible to a naive "action date in FY2026" search. To avoid that gap, this pulled the full history of every matching award (255 total, a small enough universe to fetch in full rather than filter server-side) and computed period-of-performance overlap with FY2026 locally.

Which phrases count. Starting from the literal phrase "staff augmentation," three close synonyms were tested and added after manually sampling every hit each one returned: "staffing augmentation" and "personnel augmentation" came back 100% relevant (same practice, different wording); "backfill positions" also qualified but is a distinct sub-category — specifically Overseas Contingency Operations medical/clinical staffing rather than office/IT work, and is tagged separately in the tables below. Two other candidates were tested and rejected: "supplemental staffing" (177 awards, but dominated by one company's VA warehouse shipper/packer contracts — physical logistics labor, not the professional-contractor-in-an-office model this dataset is about) and "augment staff" (too noisy — matches IT-equipment purchases and dining-facility cook contracts alongside real hits, with no clean way to filter the false positives at the phrase level). This is still a narrow, literal-phrase search — a large amount of functionally identical contractor-labor work is procured under fully generic language like "IT support services" or "program management support" with none of these phrases anywhere in it, and none of that is captured here. What follows is the subset of the market that says the quiet part out loud.

Widening the lens to every award ever matching one of these phrases (not just ones active in FY2026) shows a different pattern than the dollar rankings above: several small/8(a)-style firms (Tatitlek Technologies, HCI Management Services, Brillient Corporation) show up with a high count of individually small task orders rather than one large contract — repeat business rather than one-off engagements.

Subaward Drill-Down — Who Do the Primes Subcontract To?

Checked every one of the 20 FY2026-active prime awards for subaward records — cases where the prime contractor subcontracts part of the work out, which can surface a different (and sometimes more relevant) set of companies than the prime recipient. Most staff-aug primes do the staffing directly: only 1 of 20 contracts had any subawards at all.

All 5 subaward records here ($1,136,267 combined) sit under a single prime — Salient CRGT's Army "Battle Staff Augmentation" contract (W519TC24F0332, Special Operations Joint Task Force-Central). Of that, roughly $969,900 went to "The Bridge General Trading and Contracting Company W.L.L.," a Gulf-region firm (W.L.L. is a Middle Eastern corporate designation) — consistent with this being overseas deployment-support logistics for a CENTCOM-area task force, not domestic office labor. The remainder went to Tkacz Engineering LLC, a U.S. company. Read as a data point about this one contract's overseas logistics footprint, not as evidence about the domestic "staff augmentation" pattern the rest of this report covers.

H-1B Cross-Reference — Do These Companies Also Sponsor Guest Workers?

Checked each of the 15 FY2026 staff-aug recipients against every year of DOL H-1B LCA disclosure data (2008–2026) by normalizing company names (stripping "LLC"/"INC"/"CORP"/punctuation) and prefix-matching against EMPLOYER_NAME. This is fuzzy by necessity — a contractor and its LCA filings don't always use identical name formatting — so every match below is shown with the literal employer-name string it matched, for manual verification rather than blind trust.

4 of 15 FY2026 recipients (SALIENT CRGT, INC., CARAHSOFT TECHNOLOGY CORP, SNAPIT SOLUTIONS LLC, EAGLE INTEGRATED SERVICES, LLC) have any matching H-1B filing history at all in this search; the other 11 show zero matches. A zero match doesn't prove a company has never sponsored an H-1B worker — it may reflect a genuine absence, a name-formatting mismatch this search didn't catch, or (plausibly, for a lot of this specific contract category) that the underlying government work requires a security clearance, which as a rule requires U.S. citizenship and is generally not obtainable by H-1B visa holders.
